I just wish it was socially acceptable for a male to ride a scooter
anywhere in the U.S.

Well I get the idea, but what about charging times, if all the batteries at
a station are used and just started charging? And you need new ones? Would
be a good idea to look into new battery technologies with 10/20 minutes
charging times

Have you been to a metropolitan Asian city? Last thing you want to be while
on a scooter is have a very quite engine, you want to be heard 500 meters
(exaggerating) away coming from behind every car so they wont just cut you
off cause you happened to be on their blind side (or they just want to cut
you off cause they don’t care), which happens all the time even with noisy
petrol engine scooters. A scooter with a loud exhaust and noisy engine is
safer to ride in an emerging Asian metropolitan city.

Gogoro’s electric scooter of the future — CES 2015

*What’s missing:*
Home charging isn’t mentioned, neither here nor at gogoro.com — which
seems more like a *mistake* than an oversight…

I hope they begin testing somewhere around Taipei or Tokyo really soon so I
can get my hands on this.

Gogoro
的設計又更上了一層樓。

續航力有140公里,很不錯,可以號稱電動機車界的tesla

If you thought this company is trying to revolutionize scooters….. you
need to watch this video again. They have a much larger vision of changing
the way we use an consume energy. They’re trying to rewrite what we think
of the Double AA battery

I know as a fact lots of cities in China is adding bike rental facilities
in city centers, it;s free to ride for the 1st hr as a way to reduce carbon
footprint of personal transportation, but I truly think this will actually
be even better. I love it. I can totally imagine myself go to work and
travel within my city on this!

May i suggest singapore being a good place to start, expect a large
quantity of motivated consumers and the scale of city is pretty small! Plus
Singapore’s doing what it can to go green and reduce their numbers of cars
on the road, all cars start at aprox $90,000 (67,000 USD) bikes have a much
lower COE charge

*no noise
*custom LED back
*digital LED
*LED guage
*nice silk but no stylish
*no more PETROL!
*only charging battery

but question is: how long do the batteries charge for?

I don’t think this is going to be a thing mainly because of the battery
system. They main issue of electronic vehicles now is there are not enough
charging stations around in most of cities but at least all of electric
cars use the same charging system , I don’t think this thing would have a
such high demand that makes cities install the battery cell stations
specially for scooters.

I bet this gogoro will dissapear (in the not too distant future) before it
gets off. Why? The battery. I’m looking at it and I’m thinking, ok, this is
suppose to be “advanced”, so why is it so big? and clunky? Horace didn’t
really think through this concept, all he did was made a scooter look
cooler and futuristic, but it is anything but, the battery isn’t even new
technology and it certainly wasn’t created with the $150M invested, the
battery is from Panasonic and all it is, is just 18650 batteries all linked
up. These batteries are very, very dangerous to the untrained, and in the
event of an accident, I’d rather be on a petrol scooter instead.

It’s incredibly stupid of these tech companies that keep coming up with new
ideas and innovations, new phones, etc. when they have yet to solve the
biggest problem of the 21st century, battery longevity, who cares if the
scooter is smart, or if iphone 12 has robotic capabilities, if the power
source can only provide you with less 2 hours use, what’s the point of
releasing new technology when it becomes cumbersome to even use them.

But to charge the 8 batteries, we need electricity. Which then off-set the
‘efficiency’ that was initially intended.
What is the ratio of these two ? The electricity used to recharge vs the
the air-pollution that is saved. What is the carbon footprint?

Kester Belgrove said in February 27th, 2015 at 3:52 pm

I like the idea of the batteries much more than the scooter. However… To
make electricity less than eco-friendly methods are utilized. Anything from
coal, to diesel, to nuclear power is used to produce electricity. Give me
the Gogoro batteries and a clean method to produce electricity. Here in the
Tropics we have been blessed with the sun all year round (except at night
of course). Give me a solar option and I would buy in.
